Project Hello+@UM

Hello+@UM aims to improve DOTS. It is a digital platform providing video-based DOTS (vDOTS) to put an end to daily hospital visits for TB patients of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). Patients upload daily videos of themselves taking their medication on our secure platform while utilising our drug delivery, side effect monitoring and tele-consultation services to enjoy DOTS from the comforts of their home.

Description

The Team

Ni Hao! Apa Khabar! We are Hello+@UM, a team of medical, IT, economics and psychology students from Singapore & Malaysia that are tackling tuberculosis (TB) as brothers/sisters-in-arms!

The Problem

Shockingly, TB is an even major threat causing more deaths per year compared to COVID-19! TB has the highest global incidence in South East Asia, with Malaysia and Singapore showing increasing cases over the last few years.

Traditional TB treatment — Directly Observed Treatment, Short-Course (DOTS) requires daily hospital visits to take antibiotics for ~6 months. Non-compliance to treatment is common due to inconvenience of DOTS and is estimated to cost an additional RM51 million/year to taxpayers!

Our Solution

Hello+@UM aims to improve DOTS. It is a digital platform providing video-based DOTS (vDOTS) to put an end to daily hospital visits for TB patients of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).

Patients upload daily videos of themselves taking their medication on our secure platform while utilising our drug delivery, side effect monitoring and tele-consultation services to enjoy DOTS from the comforts of their home.

Our Long Term Vision

In the long term, Hello+@UM will expand and incorporate other clinic services in UMMC to target non-TB patients

Upon building a successful vDOTS platform for patients in UMMC, further expansion of our vDOTS platform to become a national standard for other hospitals in the region via partnership with Ministry of Health Malaysia will be our goal
