Knee pain and instability: as OA patients become less active due to joint pain, their quadricep muscles atrophy from disuse. The primary objective of the Exo-Brace is to improve functional mobility by equipping the patient’s quadriceps with a mechanical advantage. The Exo-Brace was designed with an evidence-based approach and developed with input from physiotherapists and orthopaedists.
In osteoarthritic patients, knee extension is weak while flexion is less affected. The Exo-Brace takes advantage of this with an elastic band mounted along its side. The elastic band tightens during knee flexion, storing tension, which is redistributed to the patient during knee extension, assisting the quadriceps. This helps patients mobilize with less pain, encouraging physical activity and slowing quadriceps atrophy.
