Virtual Nursing (Alexandra Hospital)

Virtual Nursing is a platform for efficient and enhanced patient monitoring and care, with the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors like smart beds and smart wearables. We have created a processing and analytics system that can consolidate, aggregate and present the continuous stream of data measured by the IoT devices for nurses to monitor the patients’ clinical data in a more efficient manner and trigger alerts for nurses’ attention upon detecting patient abnormalities or deterioration.

Description

Virtual Nursing Web Application (VNW)
Our team aims to develop a prototype for a clinical dashboard. This dashboard is intended to serve as a centralised platform that can aggregate data from smart beds and wearables, displaying critical clinical information in a way that enables virtual nurses to efficiently monitor multiple patients simultaneously, even from a remote location. They would be able to customise and tailor each individual patient’s data to view the most important information for every patient. They can then alert ground nurses if any patient requires medical attention. This initiative seeks to enhance care delivery processes by providing a real-time overview of patients' key clinical parameters for virtual nurses to assist ground nurses with air-support so that they can look after more patients.

Virtual Nursing Mobile Application (VNM)
To complement the virtual nursing dashboard web application, our team aims to develop a mobile application to help ground nurses receive critical information from the virtual nurses, as well as provide technical solutions to complement and simplify some of their responsibilities. With a robust alerting system in the web application, virtual nurses will delegate these alerts to ground nurses to conduct physical checks on the patient. This mobile application ensures that every alert is addressed, enhancing patients’ safety and well-being. The mobile application also seeks to facilitate the nurses’ daily duties as they provide care for patients on the ground, such as providing reminders for patient care tasks, and review of patient information.
