Description
1. Keep track of groceries
The first problem that KitchenHub plans to solve is the large amount of food wastage that a household generates because the groceries purchased are not fully utilised. For instance, one may buy a big bottle of yoghurt but only consume a small quantity after the purchase, leaving it to expire and be thrown away eventually. Examples like this occur mainly because people simply forget that they have this particular food item in their fridge, or are unaware of its expiry dates. To alleviate this problem, KitchenHub will be capable of identifying food items stored in it, which is done using in-built camera devices that will be able to scan and identify the contents of the fridge.
2.Recommend recipes to reduce food wastage
With this information, KitchenHub can use the food items that are available and recommend meals that owners can prepare to minimise food wastage.
3.Manage quantities of groceries
KitchenHub can help users manage the quantities of food items in the fridge. The management of groceries ensures that users will always have what they need in their fridges. Users will be able to input necessary items that they will always want to have in the fridge and its quantity. With the ability to monitor the inventory levels using in-built camera devices that will be able to scan and identify the foo d items, the inventory levels can be displayed as a dashboard that is easily comprehensible to users. When KitchenHub detects that any of the necessary items are running out, it will alert users and remind them to replenish it.
4.Preparation of food through thawing
Additionally, KitchenHub will come with a compartment for thawing food, where users will be able to schedule when the temperature of this compartment starts increasing so that the thawing process can begin. This will be useful in, for example, cases where users want to cook before going to work, but thawing the food takes too long. However, leaving the food out to thaw before they go to sleep might result in the food turning bad because it had been left out for too long. This thawing compartment in KitchenHub will also be especially useful when the weather is cold, where thawing the food in the open is difficult. To accomplish this, after users put the food item in the thawing compartment, they will be able to set the time that they want the thawing to be completed. The in-built camera devices in the thawing compartment will then be able to scan and identify what is in the compartment. Based on the food item identified in the compartment, KitchenHub will be able to decide on, and adjust the temperature and time in which thawing begins. Taking this a step further, the fridge will also be able to learn the user's cooking habits and timings so that the food is fully thawed by the time the user is ready to cook.
